Cold

Well we’ve had snow. Both yesterday & this morning I’ve got up to a white world. However it is only a thin layer. Yesterday it had just about all melted away by the middle of the day, despite the odd flurries of snow throughout the morning. Today is looking about the same. It’s very bright, & bitterly cold. I think, though, we are an exception here. Most places have had it worse.

I meanwhile have gone down with a cold, one of my humdingers. I knew I was feeling very drained after coping with the Fox’s ‘flu. Clearly this is the result. On Monday we went down to the village pub & one of our friends commented I looked very pale & not my usual self. I thought it was just that I was coughing up phlegm. Now it is a full blown cold. Yesterday I never went out, dozed the morning through on the settee. Today I’ve been doing pretty much the same again.

I’ve got to get rid of it quick, without passing it on to the Fox. We’re both looking forward to that holiday. It will so much more pleasurable if we’re not coughing & spluttering all the time.

Snow?

The forecast is for snow over the next few days. I don’t expect much, if any, will come here. However, it’s certainly very cold.

The forecast well & truly decided me we were not going to my aunt’s funeral today. It takes place in Stoke. Although I can’t say I knew this aunt very well, funerals seem to be the main time the cousins get together & catch up on things.

One thing I know about Stoke is that it always seems to catch any snow going. Being at the bottom of the Pennines seems to attract it. I remember when my grandmother died, my mother went off from Manchester on a dry day in her best suede shoes.  In Stoke there was deep snow. After standing around the grave for a while she returned with one pair of shoes only fit for the bin.

The other reason for not going is that we’re both coughing up phlegm at the moment. The Fox is still not over the aftermath of the ‘flu. He’s still very drained. We want to get rid of these coughs soon as we’re hoping to get off to France next month. Good health will be needed for that. We’re so looking forward to it – a bit of pampering, relaxation & maybe even some sunshine.

On the mend

It’s so good to have the Fox back to something like normal. Yesterday he got up with a lightness, a brightness, around him. I think he’s finally shaken off the ‘flu. Admittedly he still tires easily but seems once more able to joke a bit, help out with the chores of life. The flu has taken it out of him. His resilience since his stroke & since he’s moved into his late 60s is not the same as it was when he was a young man.

Once more he’s eating properly. As a result I settled down to making a spag bol for today’s dinner with a certain amount of enthusiasm, reasonably confident it will be eaten.

We’ve still got some chores to do – get a new battery for my watch, collect the documents for our French holiday – but all the urgent stuff’s been done.

He was also much cheered to hear from the hospital about a Dermatology appointment next week. There’s been a cancellation so could he go in? He grabbed the appointment, in the hope something more effective will be prescribed for him before we go away. Although his rash has largely dried up, waves of new ones keep popping up, especially where his clothes rub against his skin e.g. on his legs & arms. Now he’s feeling less fluey he’s once more aware of the itches. So here’s hoping.
