Uncertain

I’m in a state of uncertainty. What’s for dinner today?

The Fox was planning to slow cook a cassoulet overnight. However, there is no sign of a cassoulet or even the slow cooker having been used.

Last night, after dinner, around 7.30pm, we both went to bed exhausted. The washing up was left. Although I was aware of the Fox getting up in the early hours of the morning, he clearly managed the washing up but also clearly he still felt too tired to cook. I slept on, a bit intermittently as usual, until nearer 7.30am by which time the Fox was once more curled around me in bed.

Now I’m wondering should I prepare the meal I was intending to cook for Monday – pork in Mexican Freezer Sauce – or not. Or maybe I should just peel a few spuds to go with a ready meal. Is the Fox still wanting to cook for today &, if so, what? Uncertainty as I said. And I don’t like such uncertainty.

Showers & sun

This morning I hazarded a shower. No mean task when first you have to cover your chest with a plastic bag to ensure the dressings don’t get wet in the process. I have to shower very carefully. I was amazed to discover that by the time I had got dressed for the day an hour had passed. However, today there’s nothing urgent to do, no pressure to hurry. We’ll be going out later to get the dressings changed but that’s it.

It’s another lovely bright morning. The wet lawns sparkle as the sun hits the melting overnight frost. There’s even some warmth in the sun, certainly noticeable through the windows.

Three cheers for these early signs of spring!

Next stage

All went well at my examination yesterday. I was complimented on how well I’d treated my skin. That seemed pretty miraculous to me. With most of the skin from mid-breast upwards being under dressings I didn’t see much point in moisturising what little remained.

The conclusion at the end of the day was that Lump has had as much treatment as is safe. It used to protrude about 3 inches, now it’s down to 1 inch – a definite improvement. More importantly my pain levels have been reduced considerably. The effect of radiotherapy should continue for another couple of weeks at least so further reduction in the size of Lump is likely.

They now propose to start on the next area – between the breasts. That will start on Monday, just for the one week this time.

After so many weeks of shutdown, I can’t believe how delighted we are just to have four whole days at home once more. It’s such a relief not to be going down to Preston for a few days.
