Holiday thoughts

I slept well last night, the first time in ages. Clearly finally getting the double glazing done & completed has set my mind at rest so I can sleep once more. I hadn’t realised I was so stressed about it. But it’s done now & I can relax.

Next I shall be turning my attention to finding out about Austria & in particular, Vienna. Our holiday there is coming up fast. I need to sort out where we might like to visit, even if we do decide just to mooch around the hotel & its immediate environs.

Thoughts about holidays, & the horrific recent events in Tunisia, seem to raise the question of whether it’s safe to travel abroad these days. Tunisia is not the only place recently struck by terrorism. France, too, has seen its share. I can’t help concluding, though, random acts of terrorism could happen anywhere, even in this country. Having said that I wouldn’t choose to go to Africa or the Middle East, which both seem to be filled with violence, political instability & religious intolerance. We had contemplated a Nile cruise not so long ago but that is far from our thoughts now. However, we will not be deterred from France, a country we love, & which I feel is as safe/unsafe as England at the moment. Or from Austria in a few months’ time.

The new door

The new laundry room door is coming today. I’m somewhat surprised they haven’t arrived yet. I was up early, having been told the door would be arriving at the fitters at 7.30am & then someone would be coming here. I’ve put the washing out, not because it is a sunny day – it’s a rather nondescript one – but rather to make some space for the man to work. So now I’m a little put out. It’s after ten & no sign of anyone.

Hold it. He’s just arrived!

A summer's day

Yesterday was a day of sunshine & heat. For the first time this year we spent a while playing dominoes in the garden. We went on to eat out there, appreciating our plants & avian visitors as we did. However, by the time we‘d finished our roast chicken & bottle of wine the skies had clouded over & a chilly wind was getting up. We didn’t bother to stay for the ice-cream we were intending to have. Instead we hurried back in, quite expecting it to rain before long. Oh well, such is an English summer!
