And so it continued

The day continued as it began.

In the afternoon we first collected the Fox’s prescription at the chemist. It was only later we opened the bag to discover only some of the items we’d requested. I rang up. Apparently three items on his repeat prescription list are passed directly. The rest need checking with the doctor first, which takes an extra day in processing. As a result there was an extra bag for him to collect. They hadn’t noticed it & he hadn’t checked before he left. We’ll have to go back sometime on Monday for it. Meanwhile as a result of the Fox’s telephone consultation with Dermatology, a further prescription should be coming from them.

After the chemist, we ventured down to the local pub, for a quiet unwind. We did that to the sound of shattering glass & metallic droppings from behind the bar. Clearly it was one of those days for them too.

Once home the Fox made a chorizo & potato hash. Not a great success – the chorizo was so spicy it overwhelmed everything else on the plate, & the cooked potato was still rather hard. Morrison’s, our local supermarket no longer sell the brand of chorizo we like. This new brand is rather dry & very spicy. As for the potato, the Fox had boiled it whole & not bothered to put a fork in after it had cooked for half an hour. The potatoes we’ve got at the moment are huge. I doubt there’s a potato less then 12oz/350g, most are nearer 1lb/450g, in weight. Clearly the heat hadn’t got totally into the centre of the giant he’d cooked.

Hopefully things will go better today. I’ve managed to peel, chunk & parboil one potato for the roasting for dinner. I’ve also re-liquefied the clear honey that had crystallised with age. I’ve also taken the excess fat off the lamb joint, without cutting myself in the process. The birds have a good feed. I don’t usually take off the excess fat, thinking it bastes the joint as it melts, but this time I’m slow cooking it in paper so I see the point of having less fat in the juices which will be full of honey, herbs, lemon & mustard.

Maybe the difference is that today the sky is blue. The sun is shining. Spirits are rising. Yesterday was yet another grey, windy & threatening day which did eventually turn into rain.
