Eventually

They finally delivered the timber at 6.10pm. We’d spent all day waiting. And waiting. It’s almost impossible to relax, to settle down to anything, when you know you are going to be disturbed.

Come lunchtime the lad who’s doing the work turned up. As he was free, he thought he’d start by clearing the shed of all the old wood. He was horrified to realise just how wet the old wood was. The frog he found was gently taken into the garden to find his own new home. As the shed is so wet, he concluded it would be wise to leave the door & window open for a few days to give it a chance to dry out a bit before a new floor was installed.

He had hoped to be there when the new timber arrived but there was no sign of that.

We had been hoping to go to the golf club to find out how a friend who recently had a heart attack was doing. Last we’d heard he was still in hospital, now with pneumonia. We didn’t go to the club. We were waiting.

In the afternoon we had a go at playing dominoes in the garden. Then a couple of drops of water landed on the table. We scuttled inside but the much wanted rain never arrived. We heard thunder rolling around the skies, but only those few drops of water came.

The Fox got on with preparing the dinner. He’d just got the rice on when we heard the delivery vehicle arrive. Finally we could relax.

At least today we can feel free to do what we want when we want. It also seems a bit fresher. Yesterday was quite hot & muggy. Hopefully it will be a better day altogether.
