They're back

Yesterday we went along to Snatchems, the 17th century pub beside the River Lune. It’s only the second time we’ve been this year. It was wonderful to see the swallows are back. They swooped & dived all around, occasionally sitting on the pub signboard. It’s a good place to see the swallows as the pub is just across the road from the muddy banks of the river, very useful for the swallows when they are nest building. The swallows seem early this year. Is this the sign of a good summer to come? I hope so.

Meanwhile a pair of wood-pigeons waddle up our garden path, side by side, like a rather overweight courting couple.

The Fox has suddenly noticed one of our trees seems to be covered with buds of red flowers. He wondered what it was. I reminded him it was the apple tree. He can’t help thinking if all those flowers set, the tree will be dragged down to earth by the sheer weight of fruit this autumn. I’ll be pleased if we just manage more than the 5 apples we had last year.
