Our gardener turned up yesterday, much to my surprise as it had
thrown it down earlier on.
I went out with her for a bit & was struck by just how much
the garden had progressed.
Leaves are opening up on the rowans & the apple tree.
The clematis on the far post of the small pergola is covered in
deep purple flowers with white/yellow centres. The flowers are too small to see
from the house but delightful nearer to. That clematis has now grown so much it’s
starting to make its way across the top of the pergola, giving it a green &
purple roof.
Another yellow primrose style primula has appeared from nowhere.
I think that will be transferred to join the other primulas in the walled
garden. They give a welcome bit of cheer to a bed with just viburnum & holm
oak in.
Just beyond the garage, hidden behind it from the house, are 3
shrubs. I don’t know their names but they are a mass of delicate white flowers
at the moment. In front of them are some white flowered pulmonaria. At one
point there is a cream & yellow broom & just beyond an orange pompom
bedecked kerria.
Further up the garden, at the edge, has appeared some violets,
self-planted. I’m struck by the deep purple of the flowers & reminded of
those sold by Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady”.
The white daffs & narcissi are appearing too. They were a
vast bed under the silver birches but now are scattered throughout the garden.
The yellow ones have all but gone now until another year.
Soon it will be time to get the tables & chairs out. The
garden is certainly coming alive. I’m looking forward to sitting out as summer
comes & it gets warmer.
