A touch of pink

Down the garden I spot a touch of pink. I’m curious to see this increase. It is a pink camellia we planted last year so we’ve not really seen it in full bloom yet.

It remains annoying that the side of the garden that is looking good this early in the year is on the right, behind the garage so it isn’t visible from the house. Last year we planted this camellia and a red & yellow broom on the left side but so far neither has bloomed. This hint of pinkness as one bud starts to open is the first sign.

There is some colour on the left but it either so small it is only visible when you get close to it as with a beautiful deep purple clematis & a dusky pink one further up, or it is at the very far end of the garden where there are some clumps of the white daffodils from under the silver birches (the ones nearer the house on the left side are still just in bud) & a glorious pieris with its flaming red new growth.

Each day now it seems something new is appearing as the garden wakes up from its winter sleep. I’m pleased to see signs of buds on the apple tree. Last year was the first time we got any apples, a whole 5 of them. It looks as though there will be blossom for more than that this year, assuming the fruit has time to set before the wild winds of late blow them apart. Yes, there is definite sign of life in the garden. Summer is on its way.
