Castelvecchio

And so today I feel I have a bit more time to write, and include some pictures. Once more I’m off to Verona.

Inside the curtain walls of the Castelvecchio, seen from the walls

Our second full day in Verona was spent going to Castelvecchio, now an art gallery. They specialise in mediaeval art, with some fine examples. The building has been beautifully adapted for the purpose. Unfortunately I, in my wheelchair, wasn’t able to go out on the curtain walls but the Fox managed while I spent the time looking at the paintings. He took some pictures, some of which I have included.

Castelvecchio dates from 1355 & the days of Scaligeri warlords.

Behind the castle is the Ponte Scaligero. It was blown up in the Second World War but meticulously reconstructed in the 1950s using the original stone.

The visit was well worthwhile, making up for our disappointment in Salo. Much as we tend to be more attracted to modern art, the quality of the art here was awesome.
