A Good Day

Hopefully the door is now sorted. The engineer – he looked like an aging hippy – spent an hour & a half carefully pulling apart the lower door & putting it back again with plenty of sealant. His final conclusion was that the real problem was with the threshold rather than the door. There were some minor deficiencies with the door but not sufficient to cause the extent of our problems. Apparently the rubber in the threshold was put in the wrong way with the result that instead of forming a seal with the rubber on the bottom of the door, it channelled the water inwards. The company fitting the threshold would have obtained the piece with the rubber seal in place & had just fitted it as it had come. Well, that’s the theory. Now we wait for a good downpour to see if his reversing the rubber seal has worked.

All in all it was a good day yesterday. Apart from sorting the door, I think we’ve finally decided on our autumn holiday destination – Lake Annecy in France. We’ve yet to decide on a precise date & to book but at least we’ve found a hotel in an area which appeals to both of us. After much soul searching, we’ve both come to the conclusion we both want someone else to run round after us & to be pampered a bit on holiday, rather than going self-catering & having to worry about food shopping, washing up, bed making, cleaning etc.

We’ve also decided on where to go for a few days break soon – Liverpool. I discovered the special exhibition on at the Tate Liverpool is of works by Matisse. Regular readers may remember our love & awe of his chapel in Vence, France. The idea of seeing more of his work really appeals. What is more if the weather is cold & wet, as it probably will be, there is something inside for us to enjoy. We had been contemplating a few days in the Lakes, but it dawned on us, if the weather is bad, there is very little for us to do there. Liverpool has much to offer indoors. Now I’ve just got to find us a hotel, something better than last time when we went to Liverpool. We still have nightmares of the constantly slamming fire door just outside our room that kept being used all night through & keeping us awake in the process.
