Garden thoughts

There are times I’m struck by just how tired I can get. It’s hitting now. Last week’s flurry of activity has left me drained. And yet it’s difficult to say why a visit from the social worker, for example, should take it out of me. All I had to do was sit there & answer questions after all. But it is amazing how much energy is required just to be alert enough to answer the questions.

Yesterday the Fox & I spent much time discussing fencing. As a result, last night we sent an e-mail to our designer suggesting the use of uPVC or metal colourfence. They may not be as aesthetically pleasing but they are designed to be long lasting. In the latter case they come with a guarantee of 25 years, without any need for maintenance beyond an occasional wash. We can’t help thinking the planting will largely soften the appearance of the fences and the idea of something that doesn’t need painting or replacing for so long really appeals. It’s not as though we will be spending much time getting up close to the fencing to really appreciate its aesthetics or otherwise. The same goes for the idea of replacing the wooden gate into our garden with something that doesn’t need regular painting or that doesn’t swell up in winter making the gate impossible to open. We wait to see what the designer says.

I confess I suspect the designer won’t be happy. He wants to replace the wall around the gate with an attractive stone wall. I can’t help feeling there’s nothing wrong with a pebble-dashed wall. It’s in keeping with the pebble-dashed buildings at either end of the wall.

We keep dreaming of our new garden. Right now it would be quite something just to see the far end of the garden, beyond the huge fallen tree. It would also be good to have a return of privacy with fence panels of some sort replacing the present gaps created by the winter storms.
