Quite a blow

On Friday we went along the promenade, the first time since Storm Ciara blew through. As I said the other day, we personally hadn’t been unduly affected – dirty windows & a bit of damage to the bird-feeder. We had noticed as we set off to Manchester on Tuesday that the local Post Office had been flooded as were many of the local fields we passed.

On Friday we were surprised to discover great drifts of sand. Clearly there must have been quite a sandstorm blowing sand from the Bay along & across the prom. Even on Friday it was difficult to see the pavement on the Bay side of the prom. In parts it was several inches deep.

Now I wonder what Storm Dennis has done. I’ve just had to scurry round the garden picking up litter from the boxes – the lids had blown off despite being weighed down with a stone snail. Again as far as I can see there’s no other damage to here. No doubt there are a few twigs scattered across the paths at the far end but that’s all. I wonder if the Post Office has been flooded again. Certainly plenty of water has come down over the weekend.

Really we have nothing too much to complain about compared to some. These two storms have brought devastation to some parts of the country. And even that is nothing compared with the bush fires Australia has had to endure recently. If this is the effect of climate change we need to do something to protect ourselves against it. And soon.
