It’s one of
those days. The weather doesn’t seem to have quite decided what to do. It is
undoubtedly windy. At the moment it is dry but dark clouds overhead threaten
something else. I’m now undecided. Do I put the washing out to dry? The wind
will undoubtedly dry things quickly but will I end up running (in as much as I
can run) to get things in as it starts to rain. I’m leaving it for the moment.
Maybe the day will look more settled later on.
Today’s dinner
is certainly going to be a use up of odds & ends. The next item on the list
is 125g Cumberland sausage – not much for two hungry people. A look down the
freezer list reveals some rashers of bacon, 2 thin pork sausages, 2 slices of
black pudding. So it’s a mixed grill/fry. I’ll throw in an egg each too. After
that it will be back to the minced beef.
As for our
phone line, we managed to get onto our ISP to be told they do not deal with problems
with an extension line. They suggested looking for a telecommunications engineer
in the yellow pages. We did. The nearest one listed was based near
Middlesborough on the other side of the country. It would be an all day trip to
come out to us & no doubt cost us a fortune.
What annoys us
is the fact that this disruption we suspect is to do with the repairs done at
the end of July by BT but these days you can’t go direct to BT unless you pay
direct to them. Like many people our phone line is paid along with our internet
services & not with BT. And, of course, we’ve changed ISP since those
repairs otherwise I think the old company would have got back to BT to complain
whereas the new one won’t. Why does life have to be so complicated? We would be
prepared to pay a fair rate to have the situation remedied if we could just get
that BT engineer out. I’m half contemplating going a few streets away, where I’ve
often seen a BT van in the drive & so suspect an phone engineer lives there,
to see if he would come round to help us for cash in hand.
