Holiday confusion

I’m somewhat bemused. I’ve just had a phone call from the agency we tried to book our cruise holiday from. Would you believe it, now, nearly a month later, the cruise has gone down to its original price. I told them it’s too late. We’ve lost any interest in that cruise company. As far as we are concerned the sudden increase of £1000 due to the cruise company’s incompetence, was just a scam & we want nothing to do with such a company. I did, however, assure the agency that we did not in any way hold them responsible & if we ever feel the urge to go on a cruise in the future, we wouldn’t hesitate to contact them then.

As it happens we have now booked a holiday in Italy for that very time. We are excited about the idea. We’ve fancied another trip to Lake Garda since we visited in 2013. It’s a different hotel in a different village at the opposite end of the lake. It should look quite different in its autumnal colours & with the grape harvest being brought in.

We’ll be back just in time for me for my blood-let before my next dose of chemo. Our new car also should be ready to be collected by then too. Exciting stuff.

Now the Fox is trying to sort out our EHIC cards (they’ve expired), car hire & insurance. He’s also trying to revise his Italian. I’m having a go at reading about the area & deciding on all the things we would like to see & do. At the weekend we will tackle travel insurance & airport parking. There suddenly seems a lot to do before we go.

I’ve just tried to put in a hyperlink to what happened to the cruise idea when I discovered I hadn’t written about it. I’m surprised.

When the travel agency tried to book the cabin they were told the room was already booked. They asked the company to check that it wasn’t in our name as they were holding it in my name until the day before & it seemed strange that both disabled cabins had suddenly been taken overnight. This was toward the end of June.

It took over a week for the cruise company’s main office in Miami to reply. The cabin was ours. However, as it was now July, their special price offer had elapsed so it would now cost us an extra £510 each.

At that point we gave up the whole idea of the cruise or ever dealing with that cruise company again. In these days of computers it shouldn’t take over a week for someone to check cabin availability. It should be able to be done that day & for the agency to have be so advised, even if the offices are in different countries. Or else they should have retained the June price as we had said in June we definitely wanted to go. Either way, whether it was a scam or their incompetence. It certainly wasn’t the first class service they promised. They boobed.
