All our friends seem
to be full of the idea of holidays. Some are going, some just back. Some are
full of plans, some just long for them. We listen on but still feel no urge.
One friend I wish we
could help achieve his dream – a holiday in the warmth of the sun. He recently
had a leg amputated & feels holidays are no longer open to him. He is
nervous of putting too much on his wife. She will have to be the one who has to
push him as well as move the bags. We assure him it is possible to park just
outside the airport & get help to get inside. He doesn’t have to get out of
his wheelchair to get on & off the plane. Go with an accessible travel
company & they will provide accessible transport to & from the
accommodation. He remains nervous.
As for us, we remain
immune to the attractions of a holiday. We still feel tired, still feel the
need to get back to normality, to truly feel we’re home. There’s no denying it,
if you’re not feeling well, home is where you want to be. Admittedly the idea
of some warmth & blue skies does appeal but hopefully they will come with
the summer. Spring is definitely on its way. Summer won’t be far behind.
The one thing that
did raise a little bit of interest in me was when I switched on the computer
yesterday. The screensaver image, taken randomly from our photo collection, was
one of Pompeii, taken on a holiday several years ago now. What I longed for was
the clarity of the light of the Med area rather than Pompeii per se. I think we
saw all there was to see there but a different part of Italy/France perhaps…
