A shared passion

The call came. Out tickets for the Austrian holiday had arrived. We only had to go into to collect them. So we went.

We were surprised to be asked when we had got them, if there were any spices we wanted. The advisor, Bren, was off to Turkey in a couple of weeks. She always buys her spices in bulk while she’s there. We nervously suggested some saffron. Apparently she can get an enormous bag for about £1. We agreed. Since she won’t be back until after we’ve gone, we said we will pop into the office to tell her about how our holiday went & collect the saffron at the same time.

How all this came about was that one time I made my way into the travel agency without the Fox. It surprised Bren & she asked where he was. He’d just popped to the Health Food Shop to buy some curry powder, so much better value than that available in the supermarkets. He would soon be along. She then revealed her source for spices & offered to do any buying for us in future, hence the saffron.

It’s strange. We’ve been using the same travel agency for a while. Bren has served us before, but she’s never been as friendly. But now she’s really opening up. Who knows we may even become friends! I’ve always thought before we weren’t on the same wavelength but clearly a shared passion for cooking has found the common ground.
