It came as quite a
shock.
The Fox went to put
out the bin for today. This week it’s green bin day i.e. when the bin with garden
& vegetable waste gets collected & emptied. He didn’t expect there to be much in it.
Okay Di, our
gardener had put some weeds etc. in it. We had put some vegetable waste in –
though I put most of it in the compost bin. The bin is collected only once a
fortnight.
Yet the bin was
nearly full.
While we were away
we had been visited by a lawn maintenance company. They came for the first time
a couple of weeks ago. The first treatment they thought the lawns needed, was
some moss killer. They duly put some down.
While we were away
they came to scarify & aerate the lawns. Clearly in the process they’d
raked out a lot of dead moss.
On Saturday, when we
first got home, the lawns looked rather sad. We feared that the treatment was
more than they could cope with. We hadn’t realised so much had been taken out
of the lawns, but clearly it had. However, now they seem to be turning ever
greener, so maybe it was worth employing the company.
Their next visit
is next month when they are due to return to feed the lawns.
The company doesn’t
do the regular mowing of the lawns – that will be for the Fox or Di – but they
do all the feeding, weed-killing etc.
Meanwhile my own thoughts
turn to the idea of moving those snowdrops from the front garden to the back. I’m
just waiting for the icy winds to drop. It’s too cold for me to want to spend any
time outside that isn’t essential. And I certainly don’t fancy making holes in
snow or frozen ground.
