St-Paul-de-Vence |
Our artistic adventure did not stop with the museums. The Côte d’Azur
still draws artists of all kinds. The shops of St-Paul-de-Vence & Mougins
nearly all sold art. In Biot they all seem to sell glass fashioned in the various
glass works in & around the village.

"Le Chat" (the cat) |
The villages also acted as open air exhibition space for larger
works of sculpture. So when we were entering the village of St-Paul-de-Vence we
were greeted by Mancini’s “Le Chat”.
Mougins featured various art works featuring jeans. These had
some humour that made you smile. There was one with flowers growing out of the
jeans pocket. Unfortunately we didn’t take a picture of that one. But here is a
couple that we did.
"La Longue Marche du Jeans" (The long march of hte jeans) |
And here are a couple by other artists at Mougins.
All this was on top of the expected art to be seen in churches.
Jazz artists’ busts appeared in the park at Cimiez & elsewhere. Then there
were the painted walls. This part of France was once part of Italy. Still you
see the Italian influence in the food & the number of pizza places, and the
Italian reluctance to leave any area of plaster undecorated.
