Garden update

All the rain last week has certainly caused the garden to burgeon. Suddenly the beds are bulging with greenness & flowers.  They have moved into another range of plants.

Now suddenly the small pergola is covered with white clematis flowers. Further up there are some huge pink & white clematis flowers, a hand span across. In between is a dark wine coloured clematis. At present only one flower has opened. It looks as though someone has taken their brush, full of  watercolour paint & bled the paint onto the flower.

In the middle lozenge, with the rowans, the yellow irises are opening up, along with some lupins. On the right of the garden the weigela is covered in pink flowers. Further up the azaleas are opening up, first a bright coral red, then a white one. The softer pink ones have yet to open up.

Throughout the garden aquilegia, pink & yellow & deep purple, thrive.

The all green hostas seem to have grown enormous leaves, far bigger than in previous years, positive elephant ears. They make the variegated hosta which intersperse them seem puny by comparison. On the other side the ferns uncurl.

The white of the roses & the lilac tree are appearing.

Yesterday our gardener came. She brought some plants she had reared from seed she thought we might appreciate. They are now filling up some of the empty spaces. They are annuals but they sound as though they should be spectacular once they come into flower. They are old fashioned varieties that you don’t usually find in garden centres. She intends to bring others as the year goes on.
