I went off to the
loo. I’d barely sat down when suddenly we were once more plunged into darkness.
The power was out. I went off to the kitchen, put one candlestick & candle
in the lounge, found the match to light another candle in its candlestick, was
about to strike it, when lo & behold, there was light. I hastily went to
reset the bedroom radio but the cut was so brief it didn’t need resetting. Only
the cooker clock needed resetting.
Hopefully this is
the last blackout for a while. Electricity NW had said on their last phone call
that there would be a short cut while they reconnected us with the National
Grid. It should only be for 5-10 mins, 30 at most, we possibly wouldn’t even
notice it. Admittedly they had told us this on Tuesday for later that day. The
cut never came but hopefully it has now & life can get back to normal. All
that is assuming the rain that continues to fall doesn’t cause yet more
flooding & consequent problems.
We went along to the
golf club yesterday to catch up with friends there & their stories of life
in the power cut. One man in the street where one of our friends lived,
apparently decided to set up a barbecue in the middle of the street. Having got
it heated up, he called out “Everybody out.” All appeared bearing bits of meat
& fish to cook on the barbecue. It turned into something of a street party.
How lovely!
And finally I would like
to thank those of you who sent comments etc. expressing your concern & good
wishes. I’m relieved to say I think we’re through this spell. We’ve just got to
get this leaky door fixed. We’re just waiting for the new one to be made. Then
we can maybe turn our thoughts to Christmas instead & trying to find some festive spirit.
