A pop & a scatter

The rhododendron has started to open out. One enormous head of peachy colour dominates. I couldn’t help finding something ironic in the fact I had fresh peaches on my shopping list. I don’t often but I’m hoping to make some spiced peaches to accompany some roast pork soon.

The recent sunshine has caused everything to pop. Suddenly everywhere seems to be a mass of greens of all shades as the leaves have appeared on the trees. No longer are they just bud.

Some clematis is sprawling across the fence at one point. The lawn is shooting up, in need of yet another cut.

Today is another morning of sunshine. I’m hoping our gardener comes. We’re intending to scatter some meadow grass & wild flower seeds in the circle under the silver birches.

When the garden was redesigned some grass & wildflowers were scattered under these trees. Unfortunately they bought the wrong seeds. It was the sort for set aside land. The result was a lot of rape, dock, etc. We’d hoped for flowers such as poppies & cornflowers. Hopefully that is what we will soon have.

Before the weekend the ground was too cold for planting. Then it had warmed up but it was too dry & hot for the seedling to take root. Hopefully now we’ve had a few days with rain, & the temperatures have dropped to more normal levels, our gardener will feel the time has come to get planting. Then, in the coming the summer, in amidst the grass we will see the pretty wildflowers we were hoping for as well as plenty of wildlife enjoying them.

The warmer weather has also brought the blackbirds into full song. It’s lovely to listen to them in the early evening as we eat our dinner.
