The storm

I obviously spoke too soon.

Wednesday night brought winds of over 100 mph. The house shook, the windows rattled.

In the morning on Thursday we surveyed the damage.

We’re still nowhere near being flooded like so many people, & for that we’re truly thankful.

The two precarious trees are now horizontal across the garden. Fortunately they fell safely, avoiding anything of value. Along with them went at least half a dozen fence panels.

The garden is cut in half by the large fallen tree. It’s impossible to see the far end to see exactly what damage has been done.

We’re telling ourselves the trees would have come down in April anyhow, with the garden redesign. We were even going to replace all the fence panels, so really some of the work has just been done early. We’re not doing anything to tidy up as April isn’t so far away.

Meanwhile our neighbours are busy on the clear up. Roofs are having tiles replaced before too much water can get in. Fence panels are being replaced.

We tried to go the village pub on Thursday but discovered all the roads were closed. Presumably some trees or bits of building needed to be cleared away or made safe before the roads were re-opened.

We continue to look forward to summer & some warmth, sunshine & dryness. It seems a long way away at the moment.

I hope all of you in England have fared as well. I also hope we don’t have to face another storm like that again.
