A sign of things to come

I go out to the front garden, our herb garden, to get some thyme for the dinner.

For a moment I’m stunned. There’s a patch of incipient gold. Some crocuses are in bud.

I look further along, under the sage & lavender. There’s the white of the snowdrops.

My heart raises a cheer. Spring must be on its way.

Winter is by no means over. The days remain predominantly grey & wet. The temperatures dropped to -10˚C only last week. There was a hint of sleet last Friday. Over the weekend the gales howled around our home. Still it’s good to see the first signs of new life, new hope, for the coming season.
