A garden visit

Not long after I wrote my last blog, the phone rang. It was our cruising friends, inviting us around for the afternoon. Thoughts of food shopping went out of my mind (though we did do it after our visit to our friends).

We’ve never visited their home before. We usually meet at the golf club or at one of the various pubs around. We’ve known them on & off for over 10 years now.

Their garden is delightful, full of the colour I long for in our garden. It’s a fairly small walled garden – a nice size for just a couple of people. Our friends have covered many walls with various clematis. There are pots everywhere. Hanging baskets dangle from the garage. Everywhere you look there are bright reds, pinks, oranges & yellows. Cheery.

All this encouraged us to get to a garden centre yesterday to buy a few extra pots, & a couple of extra plants. We’ve bought a couple of very large pots. Our gardener reckons a fuschia we bought a couple of weeks ago was too large to go in our only available old pot, so now we’ve bought a new large pot for that fuschia. We also bought a second large pot for which we’ve bought a hebe to give some all year round interest. They will go between the garage & the table. The pots are quite tall so the plants should be visible over the table. Certainly the evergreen will be welcome during the winter months when the table is away in the garage. Now I’m just waiting for the pots to be delivered.

The weather has cooled a bit so it is with great joy we’ve moved back to hot food. The salad planned for Tuesday became spicy spag bol. Yesterday we ate out. Today we’re having the Little Bacon Flans I prepared for yesterday. The Fox is more comfortable & I’ve dug out my jumper once more. This is much more normal summer temperatures.
