Flu jab preparations

At the weekend we had thought to arrange our Harrogate visit. We even got as far as ringing up a hotel, being forwarded to an answerphone, leaving a message for them to get back. They never did.

By yesterday we had concluded it probably was as well. The Fox was snuffling once more. This time I think it is more tiredness than a cold so we will be going along to the surgery for our flu jabs this evening. But that in itself makes it wiser to leave our visit an extra week. Last time we both felt a bit off for a couple of days afterwards, not a time to be away from the comforts of home. Hopefully next week, though, we will manage it.

My day today is feeling totally disrupted by the flu jab. First I’ve put on clothes that will keep me warm without having to spend ages getting undressed for the jab. In other words my usual four layers have been reduced to two with a very thick jumper & a long sleeved blouse with a full sleeve that can be rolled right the way up to the shoulder.

Now is the time I usually prepare food for dinner. However, our appointment for the jab is in the evening. I did contemplate making a curry that could easily be warmed up after the visit to the surgery. However, if there is any delay I’m not sure I would really want to make that effort or even wait while the Fox did it. To eat before the jab is also impractical as we often feel weary afterwards & anyhow we like to relax over the food & not feel pressurised to eat up before a certain time. So we’ve decided to eat out again. It will probably do us good to have another day eating out. Our holiday in Austria left us relaxed & energised but the colds have soon used up that energy.

As we don’t want to go to the pub in the afternoon to join our friends – we’ll probably eat there this evening – we’re hoping instead to get over to a garden centre. Carol, our gardener, keeps going on to us about getting some feed & ericaceous compost for the rhododendrons, as well as some horticultural fleece  for a rather delicate acacia. The latter nearly didn’t survive last winter. Another one, possibly even colder, would kill it off.

So far the day is dry, so hopefully it will be a good day to get to the garden centre. I’m trying to convince myself to put the washing out to dry. It just looks so grey & almost eerily still, I’m hard pushed to believe much will dry.
