We’re almost ready for the off. I’m desperately trying to
remember what I have forgotten to pack. We’ve got the lightweight set of dominoes
in case we have a wet day/evening to fill. We’ve got plasters & Germolene (antiseptic
cream) in case of minor cuts & grazes. I’ve put in a manicure set, even
though we’ve cut our nails so they shouldn’t need any more attention while we’re
away. There’s even a pack of paper tissues, in case we catch another cold on
holiday. Sachets of instant drinks are there in the hope there may be a kettle
in our room. A couple of big bags of pills, one each, are in our hand luggage.
What else, what else? It’s amazing how many non-clothe items you seem to need
when you venture on holiday, especially when you are going abroad. I’m telling
myself that if we’ve forgotten anything, the Netherlands is not the back of
beyond so it should be possible to pop to the shops. We’re deliberately not
taking sunscreen. We doubt it’s going to get so hot we will need protection. And
as I say, they do have shops.
Last night we decided to have a quick look at the hotel on the
computer. It looks a very nice place, on the banks of the canal – that could
mean midges but again I can’t believe it will be warm enough for there to be many
around, & anyway we’ve got the Germolene to ease any bites. The bedroom
look spacious, a bit empty but at least it means there’s plenty of room to manœuvre
a wheelchair around. The bathrooms look well equipped. They even have
wheelchair accessible boats to hire for you to go on canal trips. And it has
its own theatre. Things are looking good.
We then took a look at the village/small town where we’re
staying & it looks as though it is crisscrossed with canals &
fascinating corners as so many Dutch towns are. All in all it looks good.
