Among other things
we bought at Booth’s, the small supermarket opposite Preston hospital, was some
bird food. It’s been impossible to find any here at Morrison’s. We duly put it
out when we got home.

The small birds have
nervously tried the new containers – we had to buy filled containers rather
than loose food. By last night they had decided it was good. Despite the long
feeders swaying in the wind, the sparrows clung on & fed. Before long the
feeder was half empty. Some seed had scattered on the floor. The wood-pigeons
arrived to clear that up. Soon sparrows were darting in & out of the
rosemary & lavender. They even explored the jasmine on the posts of the
pergola near the garage for insects.
We smiled &
laughed at their antics. More bird food has gone down on our list for next time
we’re at the shops. These seeds will soon have disappeared. They’ve more than
earned their price in the pleasure they have brought both us & the birds.
