Yesterday, like today, was grey & damp. We, however, escaped
to the sun, the Italian sunshine. How?
We may only have been having fish fingers for dinner but we
nonetheless opened a bottle of wine to accompany it. The bottle I chose was
Castel del Lago, an Italian wine. The lake in question was Lake Garda & it
is from that part of Italy the wine came.
We were instantly transported off to Lake Garda, in particular
to Bardolino, where we stayed a couple of years ago. It was one of the most
magical, most relaxing, holidays we’ve ever had, certainly within Europe. We
had hoped to go again last autumn but plans got waylaid first by the Fox getting
pneumonia then by me discovering I once more had cancer. Even now, if we are
ever able to travel abroad again, Bardolino & Lake Garda remain top of the list
of places to go.
We looked at the image on the label. It was an artistic
impression of one of the great Scaligera castles in its heyday. We suspect it
was the one at Sirmone. We say that because it seem to be on a narrow strip of
land projecting into the lake.

Above all the wine took us away from coronavirus to a land of
sun, warmth & friendly people, a happier time free of worries.
