Violets

Earlier this week, when we were both feeling stir crazy, we had a stroll around the garden.

One of the delights of the far end of the garden are the various clumps of violets. They self-seeded but are very welcome arrivals.

I don’t think I ever saw real violets, certainly not growing as here, before this. I tend to associate them with the film “My Fair Lady” when Eliza (Audrey Hepburn) is selling them outside the theatre at the start of the film.

I’m aware, too, at the sweet shop I worked at for a while, we sold violet, as well as rose & lavender, creams. To me they tasted too flowery for pleasure.

Each year there seems seem to be more clumps, more sweet flowers. I look forward to seeing them each year.
