We continue to eat
our way down the freezer. The Fox is going shopping once a week. However, the
shelves remain half-empty so it’s a little uncertain what he’ll actually get.
He’s decided
Morrisons is the supermarket for him as they offer antibacterial wipes for your
trolley as you go in, allow only one person in at a time, have wide enough
aisles so you are not on top of one another, plastic screens to protect till
operatives from customers. The first thing he does when he gets home is wash
his hands well, then he take his shoes & coat off.
Yesterday his
surprise item was scallops – we’ve scallops coming up on the freezer list soon
but just two between us wouldn’t have stretched far. Unfortunately he wasn’t
able to get the basics such as plain flour.
So far we’ve had all
sorts of old favourites we haven’t had for ages. We suddenly discovered
ourselves having Ham Pasties & Hammy Dumplings, both using up some thinly
sliced honey roast ham.
Now we are on to chorizo.
So yesterday the Fox cooked some Spicy Prawns & Chorizo. Today it’s going
to be Chicken & Chorizo Paella. Tomorrow it’ll be Scallops & Chorizo.
All different, all old favourites, all delicious.
We both had to admit
last night it would be nice to do a few more experimental recipes but now is
not the time to look for unusual ingredients or even buy large quantities of ingredients.
The prawns, chicken, some scallops, paella rice, red peppers, chillies, all
were in the freezer or fridge already, making the shopping minimal – just some
tomatoes. I have to admit, though, I will be relieved when the supermarket
shelves are once more full so I can provide a list confident everything will
arrive home. For that matter I will be relieved when I myself can go out to the
supermarket. Much as I find the supermarket shop a bit of a bore, it would be
good just to get out of the confines of my own home & see other people milling
around again. May it come soon.
