They're back

They’re back! After the garden was redesigned in 2014, most of the small birds disappeared from the feeders & beds near the house. There was so little shelter for them if a hunting bird of prey flew overhead. So it was treat tp notice yesterday the group of sparrows that were on the feeders, rootling around in the rosemary, insect catching on the walls of the shed & garage. Indeed I got so distracted I nearly forgot to put the plates in the oven before serving up the pie I’d made for dinner.

The garden is finally coming into sufficient maturity now for the apple tree just beyond the semi-circle to be of a reasonable height. (It’s budding up now ready to come into blossom soon.) The rosemary has bushed up even though it is the prostrate form. The lavender in the raised bed is also in small bushes now. All give the small birds cover in an emergency.

And we are delighted to see them again.
