Last night, at 8pm, the Fox
& I ventured out to join the communal applaud for the NHS staff, who are
working so hard at such a dangerous time. Admittedly I was clapping also for
the care I received so recently at Wythenshawe Hospital.
It was good to see so many
of our neighbours out there too. Clearly they are also keeping well. A few long
distance words were bandied around. Waves came from those further afield.
Many of our neighbours are
elderly, retired folk, some well over 70. Many also have pre-existing
conditions, like me, which make them vulnerable. It was especially good to see
these people were still okay. The few younger, healthier folk are volunteering
to help out with shopping etc.
When we had the national
applause last week, it was before the clocks went back so it was black at 8pm
& we were unable to see who else might be there. We could hear the applause
& we could see, backlit, the neighbours immediately opposite us, so we knew
they at least were okay, but that was it. This time we could easily see one
another & share a bit of community spirit & good wishes even though
none of us ventured beyond our front gardens.
