One of the few joys of our trip over Kendal last week was seeing the views.
As we set off, we headed towards Lancaster. Behind & to the side of the city stretched the snow covered Pennines. They’re the first snows we’ve seen this winter. The Pennines are quite rounded hills so it was just the surprise & delight of seeing them snow-capped across the fields that pleased us.
By the time we were on the bypass, the motorway & neared Kendal, we were being stunned by the Lakeland fells. They are far more craggy, more mountainous. The snow brought out the contours. You could see why mountaineers are attracted here in pursuit of their sport. Although the fells are much lower than the Alps - indeed it’s questionable if you can really call them mountains, rather hills - when you see them like this you can easily see the comparison with the Alps. They were simple magnificent.
We have friends who lives almost on the beach a bit further north than Morecambe. I spoke to them over the weekend. They’re lounge windows look over Morecambe Bay. At the moment they are simply wowed by the view. It must be quite something.
