WE came back from doing the shopping. There was a starling feeding on a fat ball. I was reluctant to go out to the laundry room & the freezer. I didn’t want to disturb him.
He flew off but another arrived. They were clearly alternating in their feeding, possibly with one keeping an eye out to warn of any predators.
Then suddenly I saw a flash of red & yellow in the apple tree – a goldfinch. He made his way to the seed heads of the verbena. Soon three others had joined him. Four clown faced small birds happily feeding, a charm indeed.
Eventually all flew off & I got to the freezer with our purchases.
