Christmas is on its way. We’re finally getting organised. All the cards have been written, even if they’ve not all found their way to the letter box.
On Saturday I roasted the turkey. We have booked Christmas dinner at the golf club but at the moment the club is closed due to Tier-3 Covid restrictions. We suspect it will still be closed at Christmas so we’re making other provisions just in case. If the club does open, we can always have our own alternative Christmas dinner on Boxing Day or for the New Year. The turkey will keep fine in the freezer.
Cooking a turkey seems to take all day – all right this one only needed roasting for 3 hours 10 minutes – & I don’t want that hassle on Christmas Day. Instead I cook it a few weeks early e.g. this Saturday, and put all the leftovers in appropriate sized bags in the freezer. We'll have no more turkey now until Christmas Day. Then come Christmas I lather some turkey slices with a mustardy peppery whipped cream, topped with grated Gruyere cheese & pop them under the grill – a quick & easy way to cook them on the day. Delicious as well.
This week we’re hoping to get all the supermarket shopping done bar the things that are likely to go off e.g. the cream.
The only other thing we’d really could do with buying is a calendar for 2021. We had a quick look in Morecambe last week but saw nothing but cute kittens, pretty flowers etc. We were hoping for something like an art calendar. This year we’ve enjoyed an art deco fashion calendar.
The Christmas tree has yet to come down from the attic. I never like bringing that down too early. It tends to clutter up the place. It also means I can’t do my jigsaws as the table I use for that purpose is also the one we put our tree on. Unlike our neighbours, once it I up, the tree will sparkle away until Jan 6, the twelfth day of Christmas.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
