I’ve just been making some pasties to go into the oven for tonight’s dinner. These are a bit different. The filling is smoked mackerel with a few peas & chopped onion. There’s some tomato ketchup in to moisten them, though I will be serving a tomato sauce with them. It’s not often I make a fishy pasty but I only had 110g of fish for the two of us & this seemed a good solution. We’ve enjoyed it before. In case you hadn’t guessed I’m back to freezer using up.
This week has seemed far more normal, with visits to the village pub. Things are still a little awkward with the demands of social distancing. One friend came in while we were there. He was shown to a far room & told that’s where he had to sit. We bellowed a hello but he stayed put. We thought maybe he was with someone so didn’t pursue the idea. It wasn’t until later we realised he’d been on his own, would have loved some company but feared he would be contravening the news rules by joining us. We pointed out we were sat at a huge table on our own. Another household could have joined us without contravening the rules, provided we sat at different ends/sides of the table. The person who’d shown him through just hadn’t realised we were all friends & didn’t want to thrust a stranger on us. Still we’ve arranged to meet up later today to have a good catch-up. He’ll be bringing his wife too. It should be good.
