They're back

They’re back. “Who?” you might ask. The sparrows.

We used to have several sparrows who regularly visited our garden. When we had our garden redesigned, & replanted in 2014, the sparrows disappeared. We put food out on the feeder as usual but no small birds appeared. We put it down to the lack of cover if a bird of prey, or a cat, was on the prowl.

Over the weekend we’ve sat out in the sun, having our mugs of tea. Our eyes were drawn to the sight of several sparrows darting in & out of the rosemary & lavender. They’ve clearly decided that these shrubs, along with the apple tree, are now of a size to give them shelter if they need it, as well as insect life for dinner. The feeder provides them with a welcome drink of water. We’re just pleased to see them back. Maybe now it will be worth getting extra bird food in the thought that it will get eaten up before it goes off.
