A relief

Our next door neighbour has been having their hard landscaping replaced. We have had weeks of drills, stone cutters, cement mixers, noise & dust everywhere. The weekends have been a welcome break. My heart therefore sank when I saw the wagon outside of their house this morning. More stuff presumably, more dust & noise. But no, he’s gone away again & all is quiet. The sun is even shining to cheer us up.

It does look better next door from what I can see over the wall & from the street. All the tatty decking has been removed. Better drainage has been put in. The back has some lovely flagging around a rather nondescript artificial lawn. (We prefer a real lawn even if it does require regular mowing. There is just so much wildlife as a result. We love to watch the blackbirds rootling around in it.)

There is new fencing & gating, giving them privacy from the street. Now they’re onto the front garden area, which I gather is largely going to be tarmacked as that is where he puts his car, there being no garage. It should be good at the end of the day, a distinct improvement. But just at the moment the noise detracts from any pleasure in sitting out in the garden & the dust is coating our car, not to mention the bay tree growing in the front garden & which we use for cooking. It will be a relief when it is all done, for us as well as our neighbours.
