Hopes

The kippers are finally around the boiled eggs. I’ve suitably breadcrumbed them. They’re now in the fridge to fry up this evening. Hopefully by then the kipper mix will be a little firmer than it is now.

Last night we were looking at hotels in England, thinking of having a week’s break. We were struck again by just how expensive it is in England. For the same money, or even less, we could have a time in Europe where hopefully the weather might be better, the culture & cuisine is certainly going to be quite different. Those are the things that make a holiday for us. We’re half wondering whether we could get away to mainland Europe before the end of March & Brexit, with all its consequences & uncertainties. A break in England is fine for just a couple of day’s break. The hassle of airports is too much for going away for such a short time & the price difference is minimal.

In some ways it is a pity. Great Britain - & here I am including Scotland & Wales – has many places of interest to visit. In parts it has fabulous scenery. There are some wonderful historic houses & museums, some fascinating galleries. It’s just so expensive!
